Copywriting rates

Ah the golden question, what do I charge? I base my prices on a day rate of £450. However, I usually offer a fixed quote for the whole project. That way, you know exactly how much to budget, and I don’t waste time clock watching.

Website copywriting

Includes:

A briefing session. (AKA, a video chat.) This is where I’ll get to know you and your organisation. We’ll probably each bring biscuits. My dog might bark occasionally. You’ll get to see the wonder that is my garden office, complete with A-Team kite and a bookcase full of Lego. And I’ll ask a lot of questions. By the end of the call, I’ll have a good idea of exactly what you’re looking for.
Keyword research. I’ll do some research on SEMRush to pull together the search terms we’ll weave throughout your website.
Mini Tone of Voice guide. This is a one-pager setting out your brand’s ‘voice’
Copy for up to five pages. These will likely be your home page, about page, service page, contact page and one other. I’ll provide up to 500 words of SEO copy for each.
Meta data for each page. This is what Google will display. It needs to appeal to both Google and potential visitors.
Two rounds of amends. I’ll aim to nail your brief in one go, but most clients need to tweak a few things.

Case studies

Case studies are crucial for both charities and companies. They tell your readers that you know what you’re doing. And the best ones let your customers do the selling for you. I write case studies most weeks, for a range of clients.

Price: From £300 each, including an interview

Blogging

I can write about most topics, from climate change to cosmetics. (I once wrote about thread worms and headlice for Mothercare...). My prices includes those all important meta titles and meta descriptions. I write for readers first, but with Google in mind, so your shiny new blog posts will be fully optimised.

Five blog posts, up to 700 words each: From £1,200

Five blog posts, up to 1,500 words: From £1,900

Magazine features

I’ve written literally hundreds of articles over the years. I particularly enjoy interviews, eco-living features and hotel reviews (who doesn’t love a night away?) but I can write about a range of subjects.

Price: From £350 for 1,000 words

Editing

Are you 90% there with your copy but know it’s falling a bit flat? I can tighten it up, cut out the waffle, correct mistakes and give it a good old polish.

I started editing magazines almost 20 years ago. I have several regular clients, so I can’t commit to editing a monthly magazine, but I’m happy to cover sick leave or take on a quarterly/bi-annual publication.

Paying me

I take a 50% deposit upfront and will invoice for the remaining 50% when I hand over the first draft. I ask for payment within 14 days.
