Do you specialise in any areas?

My main focus is working with organisations that ‘do good’. That includes charities, co-operatives, education providers and social enterprises.

Subject wise, I've written about everything from ISAs to headlice. I enjoy getting my geeky research hat on to explore a new topic.

Do you work as a copywriter for agencies or direct with clients?

Accepted Answer

I mainly work direct with clients, but I'm also happy to be part of an agency team. I've written for the likes of Amazon, Unilever, Specsavers, Mothercare and Argos through agencies. Smaller brands tend to come to me direct as it's quicker (and usually cheaper).

What if my copywriting project is too big for one person?

Us freelancers are a sociable bunch, so I know plenty of other professional copywriters I can bring onboard if needs be. I'll always give you a head's up before I do that and will still be your main point of contact. I'll also check every piece of work before it reaches you.

What are your copywriting rates?

My day rate is £450. However, I usually quote for the project, not the time it’s going to take. That way you know exactly how much you need to budget. The price I quote will depend on a range of things, including research time and word count. I also offer a discount to charities and social enterprises. Is there anything you can't write about?

I’ve happily written about everything from threadworm treatment to mobility scooters. I enjoy research and a product doesn’t need to be whizz bang exciting for me to write about it. However, I do need to believe that the customer is going to benefit from it, and that the world won’t be worse off as a result. So I can’t help you to peddle disposable ‘tat’ or fox fur coats for example.

Where are you based?

I live in a tiny village near Honiton, East Devon. So I’m close enough to pop to Exeter for meetings. My local train station has a direct line into London, and I can travel to Bristol, Plymouth and other cities to meet clients. I can also chat to you by phone, email, Zoom, Slack, WhatsApp and carrier pigeon. (OK that last one is a lie, but you get my point.)

Do you have copywriting insurance?

Yes. I have professional indemnity and public liability insurance. It's pretty essential as a freelance copywriter and editor these days.
